ABS is one of the world’s leading classification societies. Its mission is to promote the security of life, property and the natural environment primarily through the development of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine related facilities.

The extensive global network of skilled ABS surveyors and engineers are able to provide support to clients from the initial design concept, through the design approval process, during construction and throughout the service life of the vessel. In addition to this technical and operational support, ABS staff work closely with its clients to assist them in the implementation of appropriate health, safety, quality, security and environmental management systems

Within the energy sector, operators have long recognized the unparalleled level of experience that resides within ABS and repeatedly seek assistance with new projects, which often push beyond known technical frontiers. Specifically in the LNG sector, ABS has developed technology and criteria to address the safety and operational requirements of new generation vessels and offshore terminals. ABS continues to work closely with industry to review new design concepts for the transportation of LNG and CNG and has ongoing research and development initiatives in hull structures, containment systems, ship/terminal interaction, ship to ship transfer and Arctic technology among others.
